The leadership of “Fityanul-Islam” in Kaduna State has pledged full support for Governor Uba Sani, saying the group will “Repay his kind gestures at the polls” in recognition of his inclusive approach to governance and religious affairs.
The Islamic group made this pledge on Tuesday during the annual Maulid Nabiyyi celebration at Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna.
The Chairman of Fityanul-Islam, Sheikh Rabiu Abdullahu Zaria, commended the governor for proposing the Kaduna State Religious Commission, which he said will benefit adherents of all religions and the various sects within them.
According to Sheikh Rabiu, Governor Sani has consistently supported religious activities since assuming office and has never turned down any request from Fityanul-Islam.
“Adherents of the two major religions have never had a more supportive Governor like him.
“We will not vote for someone who hates us, someone who will prevent us from celebrating Maulid, or someone who will arrest our Qur’anic pupils,” Sheikh Rabiu said.
The Islamic leader further prayed for the governor’s political future, expressing confidence that Sani would complete his first term successfully, secure a second term, and later attain a higher office.
“God willing, the Governor will complete his first term victoriously, will secure a second term and will ascend to a higher position afterwards,” he said.
“Next May, we will all be gathered here at Murtala Muhammed Square to celebrate your victory at the polls,” he added.
In his remarks, Governor Uba Sani said the essence of the Maulid celebration is for people to reflect on and emulate the character of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
“We are all gathered here today to emulate the Prophet and his lifestyle. We are all aware that he embraced everyone, irrespective of religion and ethnicity. This is the significance of this gathering,” he said.
The governor noted that if Nigerians adopt the teachings and lifestyle of the Prophet, the country will enjoy lasting peace.
He recalled that when the Prophet migrated from Makkah to Madina, he governed inclusively, relating with Muslims and Christians alike.
“As leaders today, the only thing that we can do is to emulate the teachings and lifestyle of the Prophet,” Sani said.
He commended Fityanul-Islam for organising the gathering and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with the group to sustain peace.
“Today, Kaduna State has achieved a modest peace and tranquillity in the whole of Nigeria because we embraced everyone, irrespective of religion and tribe,” the governor said.
“In this gathering, there are people of different faiths here. Some are Muslims, and others are Christians; this is because in Kaduna, we don’t judge you by your religion but by your character,” he added.
Governor Sani said the inclusive approach has yielded positive results, and expressed satisfaction that residents are now living in harmony.
