Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has tasked the newly elected chairmen of the 20 Local Government Councils to prioritise grassroots development and the welfare of residents.
The governor gave the charge on Monday while congratulating the chairmen following the announcement of the results of the Bauchi State local government elections by the State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC).
Governor Mohammed said the mandate given to the chairmen by the electorate should be regarded as a responsibility to serve rather than merely an electoral victory.
He urged them to work closely with their communities to identify and address local challenges while promoting peace, unity and inclusive development.
The Governor said that effective leadership at the local government level was essential to improving residents’ lives, urging the new chairmen to demonstrate transparency and accountability in managing public resources.
He assured them that the Bauchi State Government would continue to provide the necessary support and cooperation to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Mohammed also commended the electorate for their peaceful and orderly participation in the elections.
He praised BASIEC, security agencies, political parties, election officials, observers, the media and other stakeholders for their contributions to the successful conduct of the exercise.
He wished the newly elected chairmen a successful tenure in office and urged them to remain committed to the mandate entrusted to them by their constituents.
